Former Foxes defender Mee looking forward tonights game

The 22-year-old Manchester City defender spent the second half of last season on loan with the Foxes, making 15 appearances – including the 4-0 win over the Clarets at the then-Walkers Stadium in April.

Eriksson tried to take the England Under-21 international back to Leicester over the summer, to add to his purchases of Matthew Mills and Sean St Ledger, but Eddie Howe made him his first close-season signing, landing him on a season-long loan.

Mee felt Burnley simply wanted him more.

He said: “The manager was really enthusiastic about me coming here, and he wanted to play me in the team, and that really sold it to me.

“Going back to Leicester and seeing the signings they’d been making, they just didn’t seem as enthusiastic as bringing me in as Burnley did.

“There was quite a few teams interested.

“I spoke to one or two managers wanting to bring me to their clubs but I spoke to Burnley and I wanted to come here.”

In terms of game time, Mee will feel his decision has been vindicated – making 11 appearances so far this term.

He was first choice until a neck injury suffered against Peterborough saw him sidelined, and subsequently lose his slot for six games.

But he returned as a substitute in the win at Coventry.

And he has started the last two games, switching to left back on Saturday after Brian Easton’s injury.

Mee is disappointed not to get the chance to Eriksson again.

He said: “There’s been a lot of changes there, but it was a shame the manager got sacked.

“He’s a really nice guy, and we had a lot of respect for him, having been England manager and everything.

“He’s one of the best around and I really enjoyed my time there.

“That’s football I suppose, and I’m looking forward to playing against the lads.

“There’s still a lot of familiar faces.”
