The incident, which took place during Saturday’s game between Carlisle’s UniSun Athletic and Kendal United, led to the abandonment of the match after 65 minutes.

It is believed Oghani, who also played for Carlisle United and Bolton Wanderers, was standing on the sidelines when the incident took place.

The North West Evening Mail reported that the former Claret, who played as a striker at Turf Moor between 1987 to 1989, was cautioned by police.

A spokesman for Cumbria police said that officers were called shortly before 4pm following a report of an assault at the game.

The spokesman said: “It was alleged that a 55-year-old male spectator head-butted a 53-year-old male who was one of the officials. The 55-year-old, from Manchester, was arrested on suspicion of assault and was later cautioned for the offence.”

Oghani recently represented the Vintage Clarets in a charity football match.
