Former Burnley FC boss Cotterill linked with Birmingham job

FORMER Burnley boss Steve Cotterill has emerged as a target for Birmingham City after the resignation of Alex McLeish on Sunday.

Blues are thought to be looking to talk to the now Portsmouth chief, after McLeish stepped down by e-mail.

Cotterill, who managed Burnley from the summer of 2004 to November 2007, took over at Fratton Park 12 months ago after Pompey’s relegation from the Premier League, and has impressed the Birmingham board by taking Portsmouth to 16th in the Championship in a difficult campaign, which saw the club only come out of administration in October.

Portsmouth have recently been taken over by Convers Sports Initiatives, and Cotterill had been linked with a number of players - including Shackell.
