In-form Eagles on track

CHRIS Eagles is hitting a number of targets at present.

He is hoping to achieve double figures in terms of goals this season - and his brace against Barnsley on Tuesday took him to six for the campaign.

And his quest for consistency is reaping dividends from the hard work put in in training.

Eagles is full of confidence at present, epitomising a Burnley side unbeaten in seven games and up to fourth in the Championship.

And he said: “Consistency is what I’ve been aiming for.

“I’ve been doing a lot of extra fitness and finishing, and that’s what I want to keep doing.

“I’m pleased with what I’m doing and enjoying what I’m doing.

“I’m playing with a smile on my face but the main thing is getting the results.

“After Saturday again, we’re getting a bit sick of getting these late goals against us, because it feels like you’ve lost.

“I don’t know what it is playing away because we’re doing the same things as we are at home.

“We’ve just got to get the results.

“But we’re fourth now so we’re right back up there.

“Hopefully against Reading we’ll get another good result.”

And he is pleased with his goal return, having supplemented his efforts in open play of late with spot kick responsibilities, netting his last three: “I’ve always wanted to score double figures.

“The best midfielders in the world always get into double figures.

“That’s what I’m aiming for.

“I want my assists up as well.

“If I don’t score I want an assist, like I did on Saturday with Dean (Marney), and also I scored myself.”
