Flood to back soccer franchise in Orlando

Burnley Football Club Operational Director Mr Brendan Flood is to personally back the establishment of a new soccer franchise in Orlando.

Mr Flood will help Phil Rawlins, a successful businessman from Stoke and who owns 15% of Stoke City, to relocate the franchise of Austin Aztex to Orlando to develop a club in the new catchment area.

The franchise, managed by former Burnley player and manager Adrian Heath, will play under the name Orlando City Soccer Club and will compete in the new USL PRO beginning in April, 2011.

Mr Flood, who will continue in his role at Burnley Football Club, said: “I firmly believe that the USA will be a force in world football within the next decade and Orlando will be a great location to develop a franchise with an experienced management team directed by Phil (Rawlins).

“I am personally excited by the opportunity and I hope that my relationships and knowledge of the game will help Orlando.”
