The ex-striker, who clocked up 74 goals in 237 appearances for the Clarets, will boss a Burnley team made up of fans as they take on the Blades, four years on from the famous Championship Play-Off win at Wembley in May 2009.

Hundreds of tickets have already been sold for the fan match which will raise money for the Pendleside Hospice and the Stillbirth and Neo-natal Death Charity.

Casper said: “I am looking forward to it. It will be good going back and talking to the lads and the supporters. It will be nice just to be involved with the young lads privileged to play at Turf Moor for the match.” He got involved with the charity match after the death of his wife. “I lost my wife a couple of years ago which was a horrible experience but the Pendleside Hospice was fantastic – it was very comforting. Now I want to do whatever I can to raise money for the charity.”

Chris McGowan, one of the organisers, said: “It’s once in a lifetime for us to say we played for Frank Casper at Turf Moor.” Totally Wicked and Kevin Gibson of Landmark Landscapes are sponsors but organisers hope more will come forward.Kick off is 2pm. Tickets are £2 from [email protected] or 07411335591.
