Enough chances created to take all three points - Dyche

The visitors fell behind to Eric Lichaj’s 73rd minute strike but were presented with a lifeline when Forest skipper Henri Lansbury, a £4m target for the Clarets in the summer, was dismissed for a reckless challenge on Ben Mee a minute later.

Matt Taylor, in his first start of the campaign, punished the home side’s numerical disadvantage in the final minute of normal time with a rasping left-footed drive past Dorus De Vries from a Sam Vokes assist.

“I thought we created enough to win the game,” said Dyche. “They’ve had a chance with a fantastic save from Tom Heaton but that was their main chance.

“Their goal was just poor defending from us. We got stuck a little bit deep on the second phase and it allowed them to drive at us. It was a good finish but we don’t normally give open shots at goal away like that.

“It’s a strange one tonight. We’re normally better at keeping the ball. We weren’t at our best but we still created a lot of chances so that’s a good sign.”

Dyche introduced Matthew Lowton, Michael Kightly and Rouwen Hennings at the expense of Tendayi Darikwa, David Jones and Andre Gray and the Burnley boss was impressed with the contribution and impact of the three substitutes.

“I said to the lads at half-time that this is a club that has won four times in 21 so whatever happens, if they get a goal, we’re relentless. We were and we deserved a point at least.

“With the subs we wanted to change the framework of the team after the sending off and get the full backs higher. Lowts has got real quality and Kights went on the other side and I thought we created chances and enough of them to nick the game.

“The relentless nature of the group, the drive and will of the group, was on show and I was pleased with the substitutes because they affected it.”

Dyche added: “We managed to get a lot more balls in to the box with quality and Matt’s goal is a class one. I haven’t seen a ball hit like that in a long, long time.

“That’s our 20th point from nine games so let’s not forget the bigger picture of this run.”
