Eddie Howe thrilled to return to winning ways

Burnley came from behind to earn a 2-1 win – the seventh time this season they have claimed three points from a losing position, thanks to an own goal from Ashley Williams and a penalty from Chris Eagles.

The win put the Clarets within five points off sixth-placed Leeds ahead of their game in hand against Middlesbrough at Turf Moor tonight.

And Howe was pleased his players built on a promising display in defeat at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.

He said: “I thought Tuesday was a turning point for us.

“We didn’t get the result but we carried the performance into Saturday in a difficult game.

“I thought the lads gave everything again, which is all you can ask.

“I thought the crowd were fantastic.

“They really got with the players in the second half, and it was a really pleasing day in the end.

“I thought Swansea were very good in the first half.

“It was a very difficult game for us, but we expected that because we knew they were a good side.

“To be fair to the lads we conceded a goal and then responded really, really well, which is the most pleasing thing.”

Swansea hit the post twice in the first half before going in front as Fabio Borini, on loan from Chelsea, finished well after Darren Pratley robbed Jay Rodriguez and slipped him through.

Borini looked offside from the press box, and no subsequent television replay could clear it up, but Howe had no complaints.

He said: “I thought it was a good run and a good finish.”

But Burnley produced a quick response as Eagles’ inviting cross was glanced in by Swans skipper Williams, before Rodriguez was barged over by Angel Rangel in the area, and Eagles slammed home the spot kick for his 12th goal of the season.

Eagles was trying to claim the first, but despite his cross forcing the error, it goes down as an own goal.

Howe has persevered with a below-par Eagles of late, and he said: “I thought Chris was excellent. He showed real signs against Nottingham Forest of recapturing some form and I thought he did that again.

“He worked extremely hard and there was an end product to his game. I thought he was a real threat throughout.

“I’m pleased he scored and he put the cross in for the first one as well, so a good day for him.

“It was a good penalty, under pressure as well.

“I was pleased with him.”
