Easton hoping to rediscover Clarets’ fighting qualities

The Clarets are on a run of four defeats in five games,with three on the spin, after Saturday’s 4-0 loss at Leciester City.

They lie seven points adrift of Leeds in the final play-off place, with a game in hand, and Easton is under no illusions about the size of the task awaiting the side.

But he points to a Championship-best 24 points from losing positions as evidence of strong character in the dressing room, and hopes Burnley can draw from that at the City Ground.

The Scotland Under 21 international said: “One great characteristic of this squad is the spirit we’ve got.

“If you look through the season, we’ve been down a few times and come back and won some games.

“We need to start showing that again and get back to basics and fight for each other.

“If you look all round the league, there are teams on form and off form, there’s no in between really.

“In this league, even in the space of two weeks everything can change if you put a run of wins together.

“Three wins puts you right back in the mix again.

“We’ve got Forest now and we need to pick ourselves up for that.”

Easton was hugely disappointed with the defeat at the Walkers Stadium, where heads dropped after the Foxes’ second goal just after the restart: “It’s disappointing. We came here hoping to get three points to get closer to the play-offs and to get turned over like that, we need to look at all the negatives and hopefully snap them out of the next game.

“It’s a totally different side that we played at Turf Moor obviously. They’ve got some really good players. But we didn’t think of that going into the game. I thought we had a good chance of winning.

“We had the second half in front of us to go and put it right after going in 1-0 down.

“It was disappointing the way they passed the ball round us. It’s never good when you’re just chasing the ball like that.

“You look at the goals and wonder what we could have done to stop them.

“We need to put it out of our mind because we’ve got some really big games coming up.”

Danny Fox is available again after sitting out a two-match suspension, and Easton hopes to get another chance to impress: “It’s frustrating when you’re playing or even if you’re not you’re always wanting us to win.

“I can only go out there each game and try to give everything I’ve got.

“I just have to wait for the next game and if I’m still in there I can contribute.

“I always try to improve in training so when you get the chance it’s something you’ve got to take or else you’ll regret it.

“I’ve done everything I could it’s all up to the manager now.”
