Burnley beat Brentford 1-0 at Turf Moor with Michael Keane heading in a David Jones corner after 25 minutes.

It lifted Burnley to 12th in the Championship table after four games, and Dyche said: “There were a bit of nerves in the stadium in the first half and you understand why. The expectation changes and everyone wants that first win, including ourselves.

“We had to get our first win, it was important. It’s important to get wins at home as well.

“Overall I thought we deserved. We had a big chance in the first half with Scotty (Arfield) then Vokesy and Juke. They are big chances and when you look at the chance count I don’t think they had a lot really of any real meaning.”

Keane is now top-scorer for Burnley with two goals this season, and Dyche noted: “He’s alive, he’s got a good spring, he’s a big lad, he’s developing and learning and he’s got a long way to go but he’s a very good player.”

In terms of performance, Burnley are still searching for the right blend, but Dyche added: “They get it, they get the question marks after coming down, losing some big and important players. They’re thinking ‘can we become the next big players, can we get that first win?’ All of those things.

“But they’re still human beings, and they’re good human beings.

“We were nice and solid today. We had a good mixture of grind and some good play, especially for the chances. We scored a good goal from a set piece. You’ve got to find different ways of scoring goals.

“There’s more to come by the way.”

Club record £6m signing Andre Gray was in the directors box to watch his new club beat his former club, and Dyche looks forward to his potential impact: “Andre will give us something different, which is why we’ve brought him to the club.

“Not for the figure that was printed. Not you though, you got it right, roughly.

“That’s another story.”
