Vossen has joined Club Brugge after arriving at Turf Moor eight weeks ago from RC Genk, with Burnley not losing any money over the £2.5m switch.

And Dyche explained: “Jelle came in as an important signing and wanting to make the best of the move, but sometimes life get in the way of things.

“He has just been married in the summer and his wife hadn’t found it easy to settle. There was a club very interested in him, to make sure the business side all worked out.

“It’s hard then for a player to be at a club in another country when his motivation is questioned by his life. We have to make sure that both are combined.

“That’s the will and demand to be a part of the club and perform, but also, usually, you find that in any walk of life, when they are balanced and settled in their private life, it works professionally.

“Jelle found that compromise hard to fathom.

“It’s a completely different thing when you are on loan, as he was last year, because you always think you are going to head back to Belgium.

“Then, of course, he comes here and has to lay down roots and build a future.

“He found that very difficult, so we honoured the fact that a club back home came in, sorted out the business side of the deal. We moved that forward quickly, for the benefit of both parties.”
