Dyche pleased with Palace point

It was a second successive clean sheet, and a first in the Premier League, stretching back to Burnley’s last campaign at this level five years ago.

Scott Arfield missed a late penalty to clinch all three points, but Dyche was happy, overall, with the point: “I’m pleased, Neil (Warnock) was back and it was his first game at home, which brings a bit more fervour, and we knew that would add a feeling to the game for their fans and players and I thought we coped and handled it very well overall.

“We played pockets of good stuff although I think we can move the ball better, and we realise we’re a work in process, particularly at this level.

“But there were good signs again. We know the top third of the pitch is important at this level and we were nearly opening up the real clear cut chances you need.

“They don’t come as freely, so that’s our challenge to find that real clarity.”

And he backed Arfield for having the bottle to step up and take the spot kick in the first place, which was saved by Julian Speroni: “You’re brave enough it get your hands on it and take it, and you have to be brave enough, come what may, whatever the outcome is.

“I took one in my career, I didn’t want to take it and I didn’t want to take another afterwards - even though I scored!”

Meanwhile, Danny Ings was forced off with a hamstring strain just before half-time, although the extent of the injury is not yet clear.
