Dyche not drawn into Mourinho row

Ben Mee headed a late equaliser after Branislav Ivanovic put Chelsea ahead after 14 minutes, with the Blues ending the game with 10 men after Nemanja Matic was sent off for reacting to a challenge from Ashley Barnes.

Mourinho felt Barnes should already have been sent off for a foul on Ivanovic in the first half, while he also fumed at two penalty appeals which were turned down.

Dyche said of the Barnes challenge: “I’ve only seen it as it happened, I thought it was a coming together on an odd sort of angle, Barnesey gets the ball, his foot follows through, and the lad’s come underneath and it lands on his leg.

“I haven’t seen it again. Then he reacts however he did.

“I can only give my instant recollection, but I think there’s more to the game than that, I thought we were excellent, particularly in the first half.”

Asked whether Barnes could face retrospective action, he added: “I have no clue, I haven’t seen it again, I would be surprised on my recollection, but the powers that be will decide that.

“I think there’s probably other incidents they’ll look at if that’s the case.”

In response to questions about other supposed indiscretions from Barnes, Dyche was incredulous: “Involved in what sense, playing football? Is there anything else?

“I have total respect for Jose Mourinho, Chelsea Football Club and their players, there’s no retaliation from me.

“He’s a fantastic manager, fantastic club, I always keep my counsel about how I conduct myself.

“That’s important.”

Ivanovic had a fierce shot that hit Michael Kightly’s hand in the first half - and Dyche gave his view of that, and Diego Costa going to ground after a challenge from Jason Shackell: “That was a long way from me, it goes at him very fast - we’ve just had a game against West Brom, we had a penalty and push in the back not given and we draw 2-2, so if decisions went our way today, c’est la vie.

“You hope it brings balance over a season, it doesn’t always.

“Now the other does look shoulder to shoulder, I didn’t see anything from waist below, and I think that’s how that goes. There were no legs tangling, I’d be surprised if that doesn’t show up close up.”

Burnley had a chance to win it on the break through Danny Ings at the death, only to fire over, and Dyche summed up: “Let’s not get greedy, you take a point gladly if someone offers you that here before the game, we had a good breakaway and it would have been fantastic. But we’re very pleased.

“I felt we deserved a point, you could argue the toss, they had a couple flash across the box which could have got a nick, but it’s all ifs and ands, the fact is we delivered a good performance at Chelsea and I thought we got what we deserved.”
