Dyche hopes for Ings boost

But despite Ings’ ankle injury ruling him out of Tuesday night’s goal-less draw at home to Watford, Dyche isn’t losing any sleep over the failure to bring in attacking reinforcements ahead of last Thursday’s emergency loan deadline.

The Clarets were down to the bare bones against the Hornets, with Michael Duff also suspended, and Dyche named three homegrown youngsters on the bench, in Steve Hewitt, Cameron Howieson and Cameron Dummigan.

Duff is available to return, but Dyche said of Ings: “We’ll see how it settles. It’s a simple injury but it was just too sore to get on with it.”

And of Marney: “He’s had a good few days so we’ll see how he develops.”

Ings hurt his ankle at Huddersfield, two days after the loan window shut, but Dyche said: “It happens.

“Some people were willing that to happen to see what would happen.

“It’s just what it is. We’ve got a clear mentality from myself and the board of what we can do, and what we can’t do.

“It’s as simple as that.

“There’s the financial angle but it’s not just that.

‘There were certain people that we rang up about, they won’t let us have them because we’re now recognised as a club that can do something and be competitive on a weekly basis.”

Millwall’s Andy Keogh and Craig Davies of Bolton were two deals that couldn’t be closed, and Burnley have to battle on until January before being able to bring fresh blood in.

However, despite a run of five league games without a win, Burnley have only one league defeat in 14 games, and they are unbeaten at home since March in the Championship - a run of 14 matches.

Dyche wants to maintain the Turf as a fortress: “That’s decent and something to build on.

“We’ve done well home and away and there were good signs again against Watford.

“You can’t win them all and we’ve made a good habit of winning a lot. We challenge ourselves to go again against Barnsley.”
