Dyche is hopeful on Trippier

Injury worry: Kieran Trippier in pain after a poor challenge from Leicester Citys Jeff Schlupp on Saturday

Trippier was yesterday assessed, after the swelling went down following a poor challenge from Leicester City winger Jeff Schlupp in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at the King Power Stadium.

Trippier was caught after putting a cross into thje box, and was in some distress before being stretchered off after three minutes of treatment from physio Ally Beattie.

But he was able to walk away from the ground afterwards, and Dyche said: “We’re pretty confident it’s not as bad as it looks coming off on a stretcher.

“But that was a precautionary thing.

“We’re not sure yet as regards the damage, it’s too early to tell.”

Burnley picked up a welcome point against the Foxes despite being without Dean Marney (hamstring), David Jones (thigh), Nathaniel Chalobah (windpipe), Danny Ings (hamstring), Matt Taylor (Achilles) and Sam Vokes, as he continues his recovery from a ruptured anterior cruciate knee ligament.

West Ham are next up at Turf Moor after the international break, and Dyche assessed his walking wounded: “The other lads we’re very confident this two weeks will give them the chance to be fit, so that will make us stronger.

“A couple were close if we wanted to risk, but we can’t.

“We have a deeper squad, but it’s not as deep as the superpowers, so we made a decision and will try and make sure these two weeks are used wisely.”

Stephen Ward came in for his debut at Leicester, in the unfamiliar role of central midfielder, and Dyche was delighted with the former Wolves’ man’s contribution: “He was tremendous.

“We did some work on Thursday and Friday and decided it was him we were going to play in there.

“He used his experience and has a lovely left foot.

“He has that nice belief to calm the game, control the game with good, simple passing. We know he’s effective defensively, but he got booked early - how that was a booking is incredible - and he used his intelligence.

“He had to be careful.”
