Dyche hopeful of more signings

And Clarets boss Sean Dyche has not finished in the transfer market yet ahead of the deadline at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

Gray could feature at Ashton Gate against the club he turned down, but Dyche is hopeful the £6m man won’t be the last player through the door this summer.

Dyche said; “A couple of things are developing, and we’ll see how they go forward.

“But our business is not all done.

“We are still looking and still hopeful that a couple of situations might come together quite quickly.

“Sometimes they come towards you though, and sometimes they go away from you.”

Burnley prefer to work under the radar, but that is not always the case at the other end: “Because we do our business as privately as we can and respectful of other clubs and other players, phonecalls are made but we don’t go shouting and telling the world about them. We don’t mean to unsettle players, we just do our business as properly and as efficiently as we can.

“I still have some morals left in me in this weird business that we work in.

“All the things I believe in wholeheartedly are not on show in the market - honour, respect, honesty. They’re there, but I’d say they’re at stretch. We just try to do our business as properly and appropriately as we possibly can.”

And in terms of players going out, he added: “We are in a strong position in that we can do what we deem appropriate from a football, rather than financial perspective.”

Burnley are now top heavy in the forward area, having brought in Jelle Vossen, Chris Long, Rouwen Hennings and Gray, but that is just how the market has opened up: “We’ve always been looking in the market, there’s this mythical thing that people suggest we’ve been holding back, but we never were.

“Every word I say, about the alignment of deals, having to work with all parties, is true.

“It just so happens that these things have come at once.

“Availability at the right level at centre forward, ones we felt we should look to activate now rather than miss the chance.”

Gray is getting up to speed at his new club, but should be involved against the Robins: “Andre’s just getting used to the environment and culture here, and I’m sure he’s looking forward to getting involved.

“He’s had quite a lot going on over the last three or four weeks, on and off the pitch, but he will get that sharpness from being with us.

“Generally he is fit, and getting used to how we work is the next phase, getting more and more used to the tempo we work at, and get used to our levels of fitness.

“I know (former Brentford boss) Mark Warburton well and we shared a lot of thoughts on what is appropriate in training, so a lot of training links with be similar to what he’s used to, but he is getting a feel for what we are about, and getting that real sharpness.”

Burnley are also hoping for a boost, with Dean Marney and Kevin Long close to getting back out on the pitch in behind-closed-doors games: “We are talking now about getting them games, we are at that stage of their rehab where we are speaking to the players and medical staff about when they can get games, but it will be sooner rather than later.

“The first thing is getting up to speed in training, training with that serious edge, and then the next stage is games.

“Barnesy is behind them, but he is right on course.”

And Matt Lowton and Fredrik Ulvestad are nearing full fitness: “Matty is training with us, and Freddie is moving more freely, he’s back on the grass as well.”
