Dyche eager to add to six new faces

Dyche landed Middlesbrough striker Lukas Jutkiewicz on Tuesday, with the 25-year-old flying out to link up with his new teammates later that evening.

The same night Burnley had an improved offer, in the region of £1.5m, turned down by West Brom for centre back Craig Dawson.

While the club have made more signings so far this summer than any other Premier League club, landing Michael Kightly, Marvin Sordell, Matt Gilks, Matt Taylor, Steven Reid and now Jutkiewicz - who joined for an initial £1.5m, rising to £2.25m - fans remain eager to see a “marquee” arrival with the bounty available to clubs in the top flight.

After releasing David Edgar, Brian Stock and Keith Treacy, and seeing Junior Stanislas decide to join Bournemouth, Dyche has strengthened what was the smallest squad in the Championship - with clubs required to declare a 25-man squad between transfer windows in the Premier League.

The club may have vastly increased funds available, but their war chest is dwarved by the rest of the Premier League, and Dyche noted: “It’s been trying but it’s been a positive experience so far and there’s more to come.

“Some things come your way as they have done, some we can make open up because we have got some finance.

“But you go into the Premier League, and you only have to look at a Hull...

“Because we’re new to it and we haven’t got the big super club backer it still has to be flexible but careful. We still have to work within certain guidelines but they’ve loosened.”

Dawson may look to force the issue as he ponders an official transfer request after seeing a second Burnley bid for him rejected by West Brom.

Baggies head coach Alan Irvine said: “My first signing after I came in was Joleon Lescott - that was so we could have four centre-backs that I feel comfortable with.

“And right now we have four centre-backs I am comfortable with. I’m not wanting to lose any of those centre-backs. Craig is on the way up. He’s played for England under-21s, he’s 24 and he’s not a player we want to lose.

“I think he will stay with us and go with us to the States.”
