Richards ended the season on loan at Norwegian Second Division side Bodø/Glimt after a difficult transition to life at Turf Moor.

Richards was signed by former manager Eddie Howe prior to his return to Bournemouth, with the 29-year-old joining in January from MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps on an 18-month contract.

However, he only made two appearances under Dyche, both as a substitute, in the FA Cup exit at Barnsley, and against Huddersfield in the league, when he came on for Dean Marney after 15 minutes, but was ignominiously withdrawn on the hour.

Richards has since scored once in eight outings with Bodø/Glimt, and Dyche said: “We’ll see how that develops, simple as that.

“We didn’t think he was ready for it, he needed to get some football in.

“We’ll be open minded throughout that situation and see how it develops.”

Richards could still return to the club for pre-season, and Dyche added: “It’s a fresh slate for everyone. We’ve had enough time to get to know most of the players here. I’ll be getting our real stamp on it.

“It’ll be a fresh start for everyone - it can open up different chances for different people”
