Defender Mee in search of goals and clean sheets!

The 25-year-old revealed that he and current leading scorer Michael Keane have a bit of a wager on who will culminate the campaign with the most goals between the pair of them.

Mee, who netted against Crystal Palace and Chelsea in the Premier League last season, has fallen behind in the competition after fellow defender Keane bagged his second of the term in victory over Brentford.

The former Manchester United man, who opened his account for the club in the stalemate against Birmingham City, towered above his marker to power a header beyond David Button from a David Jones corner.

“Keano’s top scorer,” Smiled Mee. “We’ve been doing a bit of work and he’s 2-0 up at the minute.

“We’ve got a little bit of a competition going. I need to get back on track and score goals. It’s been going well in training.”

But first things first - Mee is looking to build on the base that the club has developed in recent years.

The Clarets have kept 31 clean sheets in all competitions in the previous two seasons, and they added their first of the term at the weekend.

“We’re happy with it,” said Mee. “We know there are areas to improve but it was nice to get the win and keep a clean sheet.

“The back four are gelling together and hopefully we can get a few more.

“We’ve got a system that we’ve been using and the gaffer drums it into us. We need to get back to that and keep clean sheets like we have today.

“Teams are going to come here and are going to want to take a scalp.

“We’re not the underdogs anymore, we know that. Teams are going to come here and take the game to us.”

Mee feels the back four has handled the transition admirably, following the departures of Kieran Trippier and skipper Jason Shackell.

And, as a unit, they’re adapting to life back in the Championship.

“So far we’ve handled it well,” he said. “I think it’s our status that’s changed and people’s attitudes towards us.

“They’ve bedded in really well. Keano played a lot last season and Tendayi’s come in and done really well for us. We’re only going to get better with time.

Mee added: “It’s good to see. The club is ambitious. We want to get back to where we were and give it another good go.

“That’s all that matters. It’s always a tightly contested league. It’s going to be competitive. We need to rise above it and do the best we can.”
