The 29-year-old, who joined Burnley in the summer of 2010, was one of number of first teamers out of contract in the summer.

However, the former Hull City midfielder, who recently made his 100th league start for the Clarets, has now extended that deal to the summer of 2015.

And manager Sean Dyche insisted Marney was a vital piece of his rebuilding plans this summer.

The Clarets boss said: “We are absolutely delighted that Dean has signed an extended deal and it is another piece in the planning and preparation going forwards.

People will be aware we are having to be prudent with our finances, but we also want to remain competitive and keep progressing the club.

“In his time at Turf Moor over the past couple of seasons, Dean has quite clearly shown that he wants to be competitive with us.

“His commitment is another sign that players want to be at Burnley Football Club and take us on this journey.

“We want to build something here and it was always in my thoughts to get Dean on a new deal.

“Equally, Dean has always intimated that he would like to sort something out and stay.

“The fact he was eager to do so speaks volumes.”

The former England under-21 international has made 40 appearances for the Clarets this season, scoring three goals.

Marney follows in the footsteps of winger Ross Wallace, who recently signed a two-year extension to his own contract.

That leaves just goalkeepers Lee Grant and Brian Jensen, defender Michael Duff, midfielder Chris McCann and striker Martin Paterson to resolve their Turf Moor futures this summer.
