Defour is out for the season following knee surgery, having started every game in the top flight up to the end of January.

Defour, signed from Anderlecht in 2016, has another year remaining on his contract, with Burnley holding an option for a further year.

“Before his injury he was amazing,” said Cork. “You look at the ability and the quality he’s got. But for his injury he’d probably be going to the World Cup with Belgium. We’ve missed him. We had that tough patch which probably coincided with the injury and it took us a while to get back on track. He’s a great player and I’m sure we’ll be even stronger when he gets back fit.”
