Fourth placed Colne face third place Nelson in the derby date but, after thieves broke into the ground using a hammer, smashing bottles on the pitch and vandalising the bar and tea bar, the game was under threat.

Over a dozen volunteers have helped to clean up the ground today.

“It was a real mess,” said committee member Dave Priestley. “We are devastated. They have used a hammer to get in through a window, there was glass everywhere - even on the pitch - and they have taken items, including the CCTV.

“Thankfully everyone has pulled together and the game will go ahead.”

Kick off is 7-45pm.
