Lowerhouse keep the pressure on derby rivals

Champions Lowerhouse moved back to within a point of leaders Burnley after an eight-wicket win at Bacup on Sunday.

Skipper Charlie Cottam hit an unbeaten 68 to see his side to a comfortable victory after professional Cobuis Pieaar and Matt Walker both took three wickets to restrict the hosts to 128.

Matt Collinge top scored for Bacup with 39 becoming falling to Pienaar, snapped up by Jonny Whitehead at deep mid on.

Whitehead also helped see off opener Adam Highley (4) at cover off Fergus Bailey at 22.

Cottam also claimed two catches, removing Tim Farragher without score off Bailey, and opposite number Matt Thompson off Walker, as well as running out John Syers with a direct hit.

Pienaar had Bacup pro Haseeb Azam out leg before for 6, then removed Collinge,

Aaron Fielding and Thompson shared 45 for the fifth wicket before Fielding was out to a return catch from Paddy Martin for 30.

Andy Knights followed one run later to Walker, as did Luke Bradford and Thompson (33). Pienaar closed the innings by trapping Dave Warren.

In reply, Whitehead fell to Azam at 3 and Joe Martin (11) to Matt Ramshead at 42, but Cottam and Pienaar (36 not out) saw the visitors home in the 25th over.

Lowerhouse host Todmorden tomorrow and are at Horwich RMI in the LCB Cup on Sunday.
