Jason Shackell has completed his move to Derby County.

The Burnley captain hasrejoined the Rams on a three-year deal after Burnley accepted an offer in excess of £3m for the 31-year-old centre back.

Shackell moved from Pride Park to Turf Moor for £1.1m three years ago, and has been a virtual ever-present, but has not played in pre-season for the Clarets with calf and back problems, while Derby stepped up their interest.

They had an initial offer of £1.5m rising to £2m turned down, and had at least two further offers rebuffed before finally getting their man, and boss Sean Dyche said: “It’s fair to say Derby County Football Club made an offer to him that was so large he found he couldn’t refuse it.

“Outside the Premier League there are still some clubs throwing enormous amounts of money at it, and Derby are one of those clubs.

“We feel we had to stand as strong as we have done to make sure we got the required amount of money for him.”

Shackell, meanwhile, said: “I am really excited about the prospect of working with Paul Clement, his coaching staff and the rest of the players.

“There is a really strong squad here and I am happy to be part of it.

“Derby have been at the top end of the division for the last few years and I believe that we can be up there again this season, hopefully making that final step and reaching the Premier League.”
