Clarets midfielder David Jones is set to sign a three-year deal with Sheffield Wednesday.
The 31-year-old - who has twice won promotion to the Premier League with Burnley, and four times in his career in total - started Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Swansea City on the opening day.
However, Wednesday have met a buyout clause inserted in his new contract, signed in the summer of 2015 - and he is now expected to join the Owls in the Championship.
The former Manchester United man had a year remaining on his contract at Turf Moor.
Meanwhile, speculation linking centre back Kevin Long with a loan move to Bristol City is wide of the mark.
