Burnley brought their pre-season training camp in Austria to a successful end with a comprehensive win on Sunday afternoon.
Strikers Ashley Barnes, Marvin Sordell and Lukas Jutkiewicz all scored twice, while Scott Arfield and young forward Jason Gilchrist also got in on the act for Sean Dyche’s men in their first friendly as they prepare for life back in the Premier League.
Burnley twice went close before opening the scoring on 11 minutes.
Barnes had a 25-yarder ruled out having come back from an off-side position, while Danny Ings volleyed over from Kieran Trippier’s raking diagonal ball.
The goal finally arrived when Barnes netted from close range, and he could have had a second shortly after, lifting the ball over the keeper but off target from Ings’ astute pass.
It was 2-0 on 20 minute when Barnes rounded off good work from Ings and Gilchrist.
Barnes was replaced after half an hour by Sordell, and he got off the mark within six minutes.
The home keeper made a hash of a clearance, and Steven Hewitt showed good composure to pick out the former Bolton striker, who slotted the ball into the corner.
Burnley made seven changes at the break, but the goals continued to flow.
The Clarets had five decent openings before adding a fourth just after the hour, as Hewitt played in Jutkiewicz, who rounded the keeper and slotted home.
Shortly after Arfield made it 5-0, collecting Ross Wallace’s cross before thumping in a left-foot volley.
Jutkiewicz added a sixth, heading in a Wallace corner, before Sordell also netted a second.
Gilchrist rounded off the scoring on full-time, waliing the ball in after a strong burst from Arfield.
The Clarets are next in action, back in Lancashire, on Saturday when they make the short trip to Accrington Stanley.
