Clarets team raise £25,000 for Pendleside Hospice

Burnley Football Club’s commercial department have raised an impressive £25,719 for Pendleside Hospice by taking part in the Pennine Lancs 10k.

The money was raised in memory of Gail Simpson, who was cared for by Pendleside Hospice before she lost her fight with ovarian cancer at the end of 2014.

Her family, led by husband Alan, pledged to raise £10,000 throughout 2015, but have smashed all expectations and raised a massive £50,000 so far from various initiatives.

The team spent months in training for the Pennine Lancs 10k and were helped by Jamie Kennedy from FX Fitness Experience.

Members of the team were Anthony Fairclough, Cal Sanderson, Jez Minihan, Darren Bentley, Nick Taylor, Chloe Simpson, Dale Robins-Bailey and Gary O’Neil.

The money has been raised through an auction of a shirt from every team in the Football League, the auctioning of an old turnstile from the Bob Lord Stand, a JustGiving page, and other things.

Anthony Fairclough, director of commercial affairs at Burnley Football Club said: “It wasn’t easy, but it was very rewarding.

“It was for a great cause and we hope to do more in the future and would urge others to do the same, Pendleside do such a great service to our town and completely rely on public support.”

The money raised will help the hospice to care for more people in the local community that are going through a difficult time following the diagnosis of a life limiting illness and give them and their family the support they need.

Hospice fundraising manager Kaye Bartle said: “The amount raised by the BFC commercial department is absolutely amazing and will help us provide much needed care and support to the people of Burnley and Pendle.

“It’s wonderful that our local football club are so supportive of our work in the community.”
