The 19-year-old was taken to hospital after last night’s U21 Premier League Cup tie with Hull City at Turf Moor to have a throat problem assessed.

The England Under 21 international was clattered in the second half by Tigers centre back Will Aimson, who was booked.

Chalobah limped off to the touchline before resuming shortly after, but was later withdrawn and loaded into an ambulance still wearing his playing kit.

Under 21 boss Michael Jolley confirmed he was taken to hospital to be assessed, and Sean Dyche will hope for good news on the Chelsea man, especially with Dean Marney (hamstring), David Jones (thigh) and Matt Taylor (Achilles) all missing Sunday’s 4-0 defeat at West Brom.

Burnley Under 21s, who reached the semi-final of the cup last season, were beaten 2-0 by Hull.
