The Burnley Football Club winger is helping to promote the ever successful charity race which will again be run in Burnley on Sunday, June 28th.

George recently hit the headlines when it was revealed he had run further in a Premier League game this season than any other player – when he clocked up an impressive 13.34km. in the Clarets’ game against Stoke last November.

He spoke to the Burnley Express in the plush surroundings of Manchester City’s former Carrington training complex, where his Burnley teammates are training this week due to frozen pitches at Gawthorpe.

George said: “I hope I can encourage lots of people to take part in this race and raise as much money as possible for charity.”

Thousands of runners and spectators are expected to transform the streets of Burnley into a sea of colour for the race, which was set up in memory of Jane Tomlinson, who died in 2007, and raised £1.85m. for charity by completing a series of athletic challenges, despite suffering from terminal cancer.

It will be the third running of the event in Burnley, which has rapidly grown into one of the North West’s top runs.

About 2,500 entered last year’s run – 1,000 up on 2013 – and raised tens of thousands of pounds for a host of good causes.

Burnley Council leader Mark Townsend said: “It was wonderful to see so many people getting involved to raise money for local and national charities las year, and we’re sure that this year we’ll get even more runners taking part, to raise money, or just to be part of a great day for all the community.”

People taking part can run for one of the event’s partner charities – Derian House Children’s Hospice, Macmillan Cancer Support, Pendleside Hospice, Shine and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal – or support a good cause of their own choice.
