And Boyd, who covered more ground than any other Premier League player, during the 2014/15 Premier League season, is delighted to support the charity’s work.

He said: “It’s great to come on board and support the work of Burnley FC in the Community and if I can help encourage people become more active and healthier, then that’s a real positive for us!”

Also in 2016, the Active Clarets programme will start to work alongside the Royal Society of Public Health to train up individuals to become ‘Health Champions.’

Health Champions are people who, with training and support, voluntarily encourage others to become healthier individuals.

This can be done through a range of methods, such as putting up posters in the work-place to arranging a family weekend walk.

The main responsibility of a Health Champion is to communicate key health messages to friends, family, colleagues and the community to help highlight and tackle health-related issues.

The Health Champions course will take place at Turf Moor on 12th, 14th and 19th January 2016, from 6-9pm, and is FREE of charge.
