Mitchell, 22, was part of the first-team squad on their pre-season training camp in Cork, but has been allowed out to SPL side St Johnstone for the season, having started last season on loan at Chester City.

The Northern Ireland Under 21 international has spent a few days training with St Johnstone and has now completed a move to McDiarmid Park.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be joining the club. As soon as I heard about St. Johnstone’s interest in me I jumped at the chance,” Mitchell told St Johnstone’s website.

“My aim for this season was always to get out on-loan and to break free from the Academy system. Scotland is a great place for me to come because it provides a great platform for me if I do well and it’s great exposure.

“I’m looking forward to getting going and showing people what I can do and I’m excited about the season ahead with St. Johnstone.”

Meanwhile, Stone has moved to the Giant Axe after playing a couple of friendlies for the Dolly Blues.

The 19-year-old, who joined the Clarets from non-league side Brocton last summer, can continue to train with Burnley while playing for the Evo Stik Premier Division side.
