Clarets hitting form at perfect time says Boyd

The 30-year-old, who made 54 appearances for Hull City, including 30 outings in the Premier League, one in the FA Cup final against Arsenal at Wembley and another against Lokeren in the Europa League, has missed a chunk of the club’s six-game unbeaten run in the Championship.

Boyd was absent for the 4-0 hammering of Bristol City at Turf Moor with a knock and returned to the bench for the goalless stalemate with Ipswich Town.

However, having scored against MK Dons after replacing Michael Kightly, Boyd returned to Sean Dyche’s starting XI in the emphatic win over Brentford at Griffin Park where he netted again.

In that sequence the Clarets have won four times, scoring 17 goals and conceding just three as they climbed to third in the division.

“I think we’re coming to form at the right time and it’s in our own hands,” he said. “We’ve got the teams around us to play and if we beat them then we can go above them.

“We’ve had some good results, we’re scoring goals and we’re looking tight at the back so we’re doing well at the minute and hopefully we can continue that on.

“In any season you’ve got to beat the teams around you and we’ve started off with a great win against Derby.

“We’ve got all the top teams to play at home which is important because we’re good at home. Bring it on!”

The one-time Scotland international played 80 minutes of Burnley’s FA Cup fourth round tie against holders Arsenal at the Emirates last weekend.

And, despite defeat against Arsene Wenger’s men, he believes the performance was enough to suggest that the Clarets belong back in the top flight.

“We can be proud because we gave a really good account of ourselves,” he said. “We can take a lot of confidence because they’ve battered a lot of teams there this season.

“We didn’t look out of our depth and that will give us confidence going in to the rest of the season. Our main aim is to be playing teams like that every week.

“I’ve think we’ve shown we deserve to be back there. I think they’ll agree that we caused them a lot of problems and we’ll want to take that momentum in to the Hull game.

“The spirit is great and I think you could see that in the performance against the holders.

“We showed no fear, played our own game and caused them problems.

“We can take great confidence from that but the league is our main priority and we’ve got some massive ga mes coming up.

“It’s a huge weekend and one we’re all looking forward to. There’s no pressure on us, we’re in good form.”
