Clarets fail to add to squad in underwhelming deadline day

Defender Michael Keane, who turned his loan spell from Manchester United in to a permanent move earlier in the month, was confirmed as the only new addition at Turf Moor.

Goalkeeper Alex Cisak was sent out on loan to League One outfit Leyton Orient, but incomings proved impossible as the club failed to get deals for Stuart Armstrong, Graham Dorrans, Henri Lansbury and Matt Jarvis over the line.

The club had a bid rejected for Scotland Under 21 international Armstrong last week but, while Burnley boss Sean Dyche pursued his interest in the midfielder, SPL champions Celtic were on the verge of winning the race for the Dundee United youngster’s signature as 11 p.m. passed.

Fellow Scot Dorrans was the subject of a £3m bid from the Clarets but West Brom’s valuation of the player priced the midfielder out of a move to East Lancashire, though it is believed that new boss Tony Pulis was reluctant to allow the one-time Livingston man to join a Premier League rival in any case.

Meanwhile, despite tweets from Fawaz Alhasawi stating “We will not be selling anyone”, the Clarets tested the Nottingham Forest chairman’s persistence when enquiring about summer target Henri Lansbury only to be knocked back in their attempts.

And in a final push, as the clock ticked down, the Clarets were thwarted in their bid to sign West Ham winger Jarvis.

Consequently, there won’t be any additions to Dyche’s squad ahead of their fixture against the Baggies at Turf Moor on Sunday.
