Keane, who was named man of the match in the weekend game against Arsenal, has been added to Gareth Southgate’s first squad as caretaker manager, following Glen Johnson’s withdrawal through injury.

The former England U19, U20 and U21 defender will now join Turf Moor team mate Tom Heaton as the Three Lions prepare for two World Cup qualifiers, against Malta at Wembley on Saturday, October 8, followed by the trip to Slovenia on the 11th.

Keane, a former Manchester United trainee, made 16 appearances for the U21s under Gareth Southgate between 2013 and 2016.
