Clarets defender banned from driving

The centre-back, currently on loan at Preston North End, pleaded guilty at Bury Magistrates’ Court where he was defended by the celebrity lawyer known as “Mr Loophole” Nick Freeman.

Carlisle (31) was stopped in his Audi Q7 by a police officer while driving at 9-40 a.m. on Bury New Road, Prestwich, on July 29th.

Once dubbed “Britain’s Brainiest Footballer” Carlisle, who was a winning contestant on television show Countdown and a panellist on Question Time, had admitted drinking in the Grosvenor Casino, Manchester, the night before. He was twice the legal drink drive limit.

Carlisle, who is chairman of the Professional Footballers’ Association and lives in Ripponden, West Yorkshire, was fined £2,365 and ordered to pay £135 prosecution costs and £15 victim surcharge.

He was banned from driving for 20 months which will be reduced by five months because he agreed to attend a driver rehabilitation scheme.
