And as he points out, while Gray could join another club in the transfer window, he would be unable to play as FIFA regulations prevent players being registered full-time with more than two clubs over a season.

Gray was linked with a £12m move to Premier League strugglers Swansea City in the national media this week, but was amused by the report's failure to grasp the rules governing transfers: “He’s not allowed to play for another team.

"They know he’s not allowed to play for anyone else this season.

“I do think it’s interesting, the number of people that keep asking me about Andre – he’s not allowed to move.

"Well, he could move, but he can’t play for anyone else. And let’s face it, if you’re going to pay a lot of money you’d probably want to play him."

And Dyche feels Gray is settled and enjoying his football at Turf Moor after a £6m summer move from Brentford, topping the Championship goal charts with 16 for the campaign so far: "We're a bigger concern than we were two years ago, and part of that bigger concern is financial so we're under no pressure at all to sell anyone whatsoever.

"I think most people get it.

"I think he came here because he had a thirst to move to what most would deem is a bigger concern, and that's no disrespect to Brentford. I know they're getting a new stadium and all that sort of stuff.

"I can only presume he thinks we've just come out of the Premier League, we want to attack it again and play our part of being successful again this season in order to try to get back there.

"Again that's no disrespect to Brentford but that would be part of his thinking. We've got a strong unit here and he probably looked at that as well and he's enjoying it.

"It has so far worked out very well for all concerned I feel."

Dyche added: "You can only imagine that unless someone put an astronomical figure together at this stage - he's just signed a contract so common sense tells you it's not an option.

"I'm not making any statements here, it's just common sense that it's highly unlikely that unless an astronomical figure from any club is presented to another club it's highly unlikely and improbable that another team will do that because they know we'll say 'no'. And the player would know that as well.

"Down the years it's very rare at club at our level that a player signs and he rips it and is sold within six months."

Burnley have been linked with two more of Gray's former Bees teammates, having an offer turned down for centre back James Tarkowski, while speculation suggesting a bid for midfielder Alan Judge emerged yesterday, but, asked whether there was a deal being done for Judge, he admitted: “I have no clue of any deal that’s coming along for Alan Judge.

“If they are closer sources than me, as the manager, I’d be intrigued to know who they are."

Asked if there was interest in the player, he said: “There’s interest in lots of different players. It’s something that I’ve always shown respect with how we go about our business, and I continue to do so."

Judge is reportedly valued at £8m, but Dyche knocked down suggestions Burnley would spend that sort of money: “£8million? This is Burnley remember.

“We have got some money, we do wish to invest at the right time with the right people, but it’s not a case of throwing it around and making deals happen for definite. We have to cut our cloth accordingly."
