Clarets assistant hints at last-minute arrival

CLARETS assistant Jason Tindall suggested that there may be movement in the transfer window ahead of Tuesday evening’s deadline.

Though nothing had been confirmed as the Express went to print, Tindall proposed that something may change with an addition being the likelihood.

Young Derry City full-back Daniel Lafferty had been heavily touted with a move to Turf Moor after spending time on trial, with representatives at his current club suggesting that a fee in the region of £150,000 had already been agreed.

“Daniel has been in on trial,” said Tindall.

“Nothing has happened yet but he’s been with us for a few days now.”

He added: “It’s very quiet really on our front, nothing’s happened as yet but things happen quickly in football and things can change quickly.

“At this moment there’s no in-goings or no out-goings, but who is to say that won’t change? We may possibly bring in one but nothing’s been decided on that yet.

“If it does happen then great, if not then we’ll concentrate on the squad that we’ve got and move forward.

“We are looking at all positions. You can see with our squad that we’re very thin on the ground.

“We’ll only bring players in that will improve the squad.

“If those players are available and we have chance to sign them, then we will do that.”

But Tindall was quick to mute speculation linking imposing Nottingham Forest defender Luke Chambers with a switch to the Clarets.

“No there’s nothing that we’re aware about,” he said.

“When there’s a transfer window there’s always speculation; half of it’s not true.

“There’s been no movement from our end.

“I’m sure we’ve been linked with many more players but there’s not much truth in it.”

And as far as out-goings are concerned Tindall isn’t prepared to lose any of his prized assets, with leading scorer Jay Rodriguez high on the agenda of numerous Premier League admirers.

“We’re happy with the squad and how it’s progressing,” Tindall said.

“They continue to develop and do well so hopefully we can keep everyone together, get through this transfer window and look forward to the second half of the season.

“There’s going to be interest in Jay, he’s a terrific player. I’m sure he’s got many admirers but we certainly don’t want to lose him.

“As it stands, Jay is still with us and hopefully he’ll still be with us on Tuesday evening.

“He’s still got a massive part to play. He’s a local boy, everybody loves him and he’s a fantastic player.

“As long as Jay is here he’ll run his heart out for the club.

“He’ll pull on the shirt and keep delivering the goods like he has been recently.

“He’s still got 18 months left to run.”

But the Clarets face a busy deadline day on another front, with a trip to the City Ground to face Steve Cotterill’s Forest to contend with.

A 5-1 rout at Turf Moor signalled the end of Steve McClaren’s tenure at Forest, though Cotterill faces problems of his own with his side cemented in the bottom three.

The former Clarets boss will also be forced to ring the changes, with Chambers serving the final game of a suspension following his dismissal against Southampton, while Wes Morgan is on the verge of a £1m. move to Leicester City.

“It was a fantastic result and great performance against Forest,” said Tindall.

“We won the game very convincingly but I’m sure it’s not going to be as comfortable as that going there.

“They are a good side with very good players. They are a dangerous side and it’s going to be a very tough game like any other in this division.

“But we’re on a good run of form and we’re confident.

“Hopefully we can take that in to the game and come away with a positive result.

“Nothing changes for us. We’ve done our preparation in terms of the game.

“We’re the team that’s had the most shots in the Championship on and off target, so we’re certainly not shot shy.

“We do create chances and another positive is that we haven’t been shipping in goals.

“Nothing will change in relation to Nottingham Forest regardless of what players they may lose. That’s something for them to deal with.”
