Burnley's Robbie Brady hoping first goal in a year is a sign of things to come!

The Republic of Ireland international marked his return to action with the opening goal in a 1-1 draw against Everton at Turf Moor.

Brady - who hadn't found the net since scoring a consolation at home to Manchester City last season - beat England stopper Jordan Pickford from 20 yards out in only the third minute.

His strike was cancelled out by Dominic Calvert-Lewin on the stroke of half-time, but all-in-all it was a positive comeback for the 27-year-old.

“It’s been a long wait but I’m feeling good now,” said Brady, who has been involved in six of the Clarets’ 10 league games so far this term.

“It feels nice. It’s been frustrating for me since my injury a few years ago now. It’s been really stop and start and very frustrating.

“It’s good to get off the mark and I’m happy to help contribute towards a decent enough result in the end.

“When you don’t play, you don’t get a run of games and your confidence takes a bit of a knock.

“But I’m feeling good and hopefully I can help the team from now until the end of the season.”

After picking up a solitary point from their opening six Premier League fixtures, Sean Dyche's side are now on the road to recovery.

They've since clocked up five points from a possible 12 and, for the first time since July, are unbeaten in back-to-back home games.

Brady said: "I thought the lads were excellent. It looked a lot more like us and hopefully we can build on that performance.

“We both had chances. It would have been good to get a second and push on but it wasn’t to be and Popey made an incredible save at the end, which he always does.

“It’s one to build on. When we’re at our best we cause people problems and I thought we showed that today.

“Once we’re all pushing in the same direction, we know we have it in us.

“We have done it season-in, season-out. We will stick at it and, please God, there’s more wins to come.

“I think we’ve got more than enough to get the job done.”
