The Burnley stopper, 28, is at the top of the pecking order when comparing data with international team-mates Jordan Pickford and Dean Henderson.

Pope edges the Manchester United goalkeeper with his clean sheet record in the Premier League, stopping the opposition from scoring in 36% of his games compared to Henderson’s 34%.

The pair are closely matched in other departments with Henderson (75%) boasting the second best save percentage of any goalkeeper to appear in the top-flight since 2015, followed closely by Pope (74%).

Sheffield United's Young Player of the Year only concedes a goal in the Premier League every 96 minutes, while Pope concedes a goal every 77 minutes.

But Pope has performed consistently over a much longer period. Pope (8,514) has played more than twice the amount of minutes in the PL than Henderson (3,465).

Asked whether he thought there was a better keeper in England at the moment, Dyche said: “I’m going to say not, because I’m his manager, and I have great value in him, his form and how he goes about it.

“He continues to improve in my opinion.

“I’m completely biased but he’s in very good form, that’s for sure.”

In contrast, Pickford fails to make the top 20 goalkeepers for save percentage (68%), clean sheet ratio (25%) or minutes per goal conceded (61).

Pope has continued to excel for the Clarets this season. His latest shut-out against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park was his eighth of the campaign.

According to Wyscout, the former Charlton Athletic man has faced the fifth most shots against (120) in the division and made the second most saves (96).

He's also at the top end of the table when it comes to commanding his penalty area having left his line 53 times, which is second to only Newcastle United's Karl Darlow.

Pope has also prevented the most goals (xG) in the division with 11.16, which equates to 0.48 per 90 minutes. At this rate, Pickford may be forced to take a back seat.

“It’s not something that I think about week in, week out, but it’s something that I’m massively looking forward to,” said Pope, who was a part of Southgate’s 23-man squad that reached the semi-final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

“I’m hoping to be a part of it, it’s the European Championships in your own country so it’s definitely something that’s exciting and good to look at in the future.

“It doesn’t keep me up at night, and I don’t think about it too much in the day, but it’s something that I can enjoy when it comes along.”
