Burnley youngsters join Barrow on loan

The Clarets have allowed two more young players to move out on loan with Alex-Ray Harvey and Joe Jackson both joining Barrow AFC.

The pair will link up with the Blue Square Premier side on a month’s loan and, subject to the completion of the relevant paperwork, be eligible to play against promotion-chasing Fleetwood Town at Highbury tonight (Tuesday).

The move means a return to his home town for 18-year-old striker Jackson, a first-year professional at Turf Moor who earned a place on the Clarets’ bench for last Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Norwich City.

And for midfielder Harvey (right) the deal offers a welcome chance of further first-team football.

The 21-year-old is yet to break into the senior side at Burnley but has previously played in the Blue Square Premier in two separate loan spells with Fleetwood, where he started the current season.

The pair’s move to Holker Street follows David Lynch’s loan switch to Stalybridge Celtic as Clarets’ boss Eddie Howe looks to give some of his young players competitive football.

“It’s important for them to get some first-team football experience to further their development,” said Howe.

“We have been keen to give as many as possible the chance and moving to Barrow is an ideal opportunity for Joe and Alex to play senior football at a decent level.

“We will closely monitor their progress and wish them well during their time there.”
