Burnley transfer news: Clarets sound out ex-Manchester United star but face competition from Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Everton

Less than a fortnight remains in the January transfer window – and Burnley boss Sean Dyche admits new signings are a possibility.

With new owners ALK Capital needing time to settle and assess following their recent takeover, it’s been a very quiet opening 21 days of the winter window for the Clarets.

However, in his Liverpool pre-match press conference on Wednesday, Dyche revealed the club are keeping their options open ahead of the deadline on Monday, February 1 at 11pm.

He said: "(We’re) still working behind the scenes to see if and when anything can be done, at the moment nothing to put out there, just waiting on maybes, but that's often the case, I'm used to that."

The 49-year-old then added: “So, we're still working in the market and keeping our options open to where we think a possible situation could arise.

"It's likely more things start happening later in the window, but we'll see."

The Express understands Bournemouth striker Josh King has been sounded out by the Clarets. The former Manchester United youngster is out of contract in the summer and eager to return to his native North West.

This is also reported by Football Insider, who added that West Ham, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, West Brom and Everton are also interested in the 29-year-old.

Whether a deal for the former Blackburn Rovers man could be concluded remains to be seen, with his wages outweighing Burnley' s top-earners.

Already this month, the Clarets have been linked to Derby County midfielder Jason Knight, Huddersfield Town's Lewis O'Brien, and Everton full-back Jonjoe Kenny.

Here’s a round-up of some of the other transfer rumours involving Burnley and their Premier League rivals this morning:
