Burnley take stock over the break

Burnley head the Championship by two points after one defeat in their opening 15 league games, with an 11-match unbeaten run.

After dominating Saturday’s visit of Bournemouth to Turf Moor, he admitted his players were frustrated to only come away with a 1-1 draw, but Dyche prefers to look at the overall picture - with his side top of the table after claiming 26 points from the last 30 available: “I think it’s good for ourselves, for the players, for Burnley as a town and for the club to be top going into the break.They’ve deserved it.

“It’s not easy to win football matches.Leicester have been absolutely flying and well fancied this year and they lost 2-0 against another fancied team in Nottingham Forest.

“QPR nick a point at Reading.It’s a really tough division.

“I can tell you now we are absolutely delighted with what we’ve been achieving as a group and we look to continue that of course.”

He added: “Would anyone have expected that? (to be two points clear and 11 unbeaten) I don’t think so.

“We have a belief in what we do, but it’s still hard to keep yourself in that position, but the lads have been fantastic.

“There’s a tinge of disappointment to not win it, but the performance was there again, the effort, the energy, the organisation was very good, the tactical awareness of the players.

“It was just that killer edge which we’ve shown many times. We have plus 17 (goal difference) so we can’t be too hard on the players just because there was a couple that didn’t go our way.

“There’s a great honesty among the group and there’s a mild tinge of disappointment. I said ‘lads, you’re top of the league, you’ve taken 26 points out of 30, I wouldn’t be too disappointed’.

“There are a lot of good things we are doing, they did a lot of good things again, but it’s hard to win football matches all the time, but we’ve shown real quality at times again.”

With a small, but balanced, squad at his disposal, Dyche intends to recharge the batteries before the next game at Forest a week on Saturday, although Danny Ings, Sam Vokes and Danny Lafferty are away on international duty.”
