Burnley suffer Ings injury blow

Ings was injured in the Clarets’ final pre-season game at Rochdale last Tuesday night.

And following a specialist’s advice the 20-year-old will now undergo surgery to repair the damage to his left knee.

The news comes as a blow for boss Eddie Howe and the luckless Ings, who injured his other knee on eve of last season and underwent surgery which delayed his debut for the Clarets following his signing from Bournemouth until February.

The latest injury does not appear as serious but Ings - who made a big impression at the end of last season and was set to be a key figure at the start of the new campaign - will still be out for between three and six months.

“It’s unfortunate that Danny requires an operation and we really feel for him,” said Howe.

“He had been looking in fantastic shape in pre-season and was a big part of our plans for the start of the season.

“But we will give him all the time and support necessary to get over this latest set-back and he will still have a major role to play for us as the season goes on.”
