Burnley striker Vokes continuing on the right path

Vokes, with three goals to his name so far this season, proved a real handful for the Blackburn defence as he continues to improve with more starts.

The last-gasp derby hero last December, he might have had another goal against Rovers early on, had he had a fraction of the fortune Jordan Rhodes enjoyed late on.

Sean Dyche was again delighted with his efforts: “I’ve enjoyed working with him anyway, he’s a work in progress and he’s taken on a lot of the things that we’ve offered him.

“We just offer them and guide them, I believe in the players taking ownership of it.

“He’s really done that.

“He looks different, he’s playing different, he’s added a controlled aggression to his game and that’s really good to see.

“He had a big game in the week as well with Wales, so to come into this and look at it mentally and physically is good. There are good signs from a lot of the lads.”

Dyche had a selection poser before the game, whether to stick with the side that won 3-0 at Derby or bring in loan signing Michael Kightly.

Keith Treacy missed out against his old club, but Dyche said: “We’ve got a group who I believe are really together.

“They understand it but no-one’s ever delighted to not be in the team, particularly when you’ve just had a 3-0 win.

“But that’s my job, I’ve got to pick a team and I can only pick 11. Keith was okay.

“He’s on a nice journey himself. I had a chat with him, didn’t over-think it. He’s pretty honest with his views with what he thinks. His time will come again.”
