Burnley striker Rodriguez is Carling Cup top scorer

CLARETS striker Jay Rodriguez finished up as the Carling Cup’s top-scorer as the competition came to a close with Liverpool beating Cardiff on penalties at Wembley on Sunday.

Burnley’s 19-goal hitman netted five of his overall haul so far in the cup, firing four in the 6-3 first round win over Burton Albion, and another in the 3-2 success against Barnet.

It would have taken two goals from Cardiff’s Don Cowie or a hat-trick from Liverpool’s Luis Suarez to draw level with Rodriguez on the day, and in the end his tally was one more than Ramon Nunez of Leeds, Blackburn’s Ruben Rochina and Jeffery Schlupp of Leicester.
