Ings was an unused substitute in Thursday night’s 3-0 win over Finland in the European Championship qualifier at MK Dons.

But with two-goal West Brom forward Saido Berahino suspended for tonight’s game, Ings climbs up the pecking order for Gareth Southgate’s side.

Ings made his Under 21 bow last month against San Marino, coming on as a substitute for Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling in a 4-0 win.

He had to pull out of the second game of the double header, a 5-0 win against Lithuania at Ipswich Town, with a slight ankle problem, however, the SkyBet Championship player of the month for October had done enough to retain his place in the Under 21 squad, as he took his goal tally to the season to 14.

Meanwhile, Sam Vokes was a 63rd minute replacement for Charlton’s Simon Church in Wales’ 1-1 draw with Finland at the Cardiff City Stadium, earning his 30th cap, and Danny Lafferty won his eighth cap for Northern Ireland in their 1-0 defeat in Turkey.

Burnley-born Oliver Norwood played the full 90 minutes on his 14th appearance for Northern Ireland.
