Burnley promoted to the Premier League
The Clarets have returned to the Premier League after a four-year absence from England’s top tier.
Victory over Wigan Athletic finally secured promotion as Sean Dyche’s men preserved their eight-point gap over rivals Derby County with just two Championship fixtures remaining.
Former boss Owen Coyle gave the club the opportunity to compete among the country’s elite after beating Sheffield United in the play-off final at Wembley in the culmination to the 2008/09 campaign.
But despite beating Manchester United and Everton at Turf Moor in the opening three games, and adding the scalp of Spurs on the final game of the season, also on home soil, the Clarets returned to the Championship with Brian Laws at the helm.
