The government yesterday gave the green light to professional sport returning, behind closed doors, from June 1, providing certain conditions are met regarding limiting the spread of the coronaviru.

A document entitled ‘Our Plan to Rebuild: The UK Government’s Covid-19 Recovery Strategy’ outlines that “organisations should plan accordingly”.

The Premier League met on Monday, for more talks on Project Restart, although there was no vote as to a date for a return to action, with a potential date of June 12th pencilled in.

Burnley will wait for more clarity on the situation before Sean Dyche's squad report back, with the manager and players eager to complete the season.

Yesterday, the Premier League agreed that players' contracts ending on June 30th can be extended to the end of this current season, as and when that is, with new chief executive Richard Masters saying the hope was to ensure “clubs complete the season with the same squad they had prior to the suspension.”

Clubs must agree to any contract changes with the individual players by June 23rd.

Burnley have Jeff Hendrick, Aaron Lennon, Phil Bardsley and fourth-choice keeper Adam Legzdins out of contract, while Robbie Brady and Joe Hart's deals expire - although the club have an option for an extra year in their favour.
