But it is hoped the Clarets midfielder will be up and running for the start of next season, even with a quick turnaround.

Premier League clubs are working towards a potential start date of September 12th, and boss Sean Dyche expects Cork to be available.

Dyche said: "Corky's had a minor operation, but we're pleased with that, it's gone well.

"It was pretty straight forward in the end, so that's the good news.

"Obviously that will keep him out for the rest of this games schedule, but we're hopeful he'll be back into it for next season.

"We don't know when that is yet, but hopefully that will be fine."

Dyche will also be without skipper Ben Mee, Matt Lowton and Ashley Barnes for the final three games, but Chris Wood and Johann Berg Gudmundsson reported no ill-effects after the 1-1 draw at Liverpool, and Robbie Brady is waiting in the wings.

Dyche added: "Ben Mee won't recover, I'm almost sure of that now, obviously with such a short window to go.

"Woody and Johann came through unscathed the other day, which is good. Robbie is obviously fit and available, but needs time, so we'll try and get him some minutes as well.

"Lowts is unlikely still, but is making progress, as is Barnesy."
