Burnley hopeful on deal for striker Vossen

The 26-year-old held talks with Burnley over a potential £3m move on Tuesday, over a move from RC Genk, which could cost the Clarets between £2.2m and £3m.

No agreement was reached initially, but the player and his representative remained in the country until Thursday, with the 5ft 11ins forward eager to stay in England after a season-long loan with Middlesbrough.

Vossen also has the offer of a five-year contract with Genk, who are keen to retain his services, but Sean Dyche is hopefuly of adding to his solitary new face this summer - Aston Villa right back Matt Lowton - before the squad depart for a training camp in France on Monday: “There are a couple of things pending that we think we’ve got a good chance of getting in before we go to Evian.

“There are no guarantees but there are certain situations that we think could happen.”

RC Genk released a statement on Thursday saying: “As it stands now Vossen will report tomorrow (Friday) in the training camp in Holland, unless something changes last minute. Talks are still going on, but nothing is finalised yet.

“The intention remains to resolve this situation asap, without putting a deadline to it. The club will make no further statements. If something changes we will give an update.”

Vossen is a full Belgium international with 12 caps for his country since his debut in 2009, and he scored nine goals in 40 appearances for Boro last season.

Bilzen-born, he spent time on loan at Cercle Brugge in 2009/10, scoring six goals in 17 games, and has 56 in 128 appearances for Genk.
